This five gallon jug, or carboy, was blown in a mold and was used by the Chemung Spring Water Co during the beginning of its life in the late 1800s. The jug originally had a glass stopper but now has a cork one in its place. Originally called the Never Failing Spring, Chemung Spring in Elmira, NY, was used by Native Americans for generations before being found by developer John H. The spring produced the purest, cleanest water available in that area and did not match any other water table or source.

A glass of water was 10 cents and horses drank free. Gallons of water were sent to New York City via rail car tanks before a plant and bottling facility was erected in 1910. In 1922, they trademarked "Zest Beverages" and began to produce flavored beverages at the plant as well as bottled spring water. They would produced beverages during the day and spring water at night; the plant was open 24 hrs a day, every day except Christmas and the Fourth of July.

While successful locally, the Zest label was discontinued after WW2. This piece is in very good condition, with no cracks, chips, or staining to the glass.

Its crate is older and in less ideal shape but it still perfect for keeping the jug safe. Please consult all images and message with any questions.
