The bottle is a flask or wedding vase with enameled decoration. The bottle measures approximately 7" tall and is 3 1/8" in diameter.
The base measures approximately 2 3/8 deep. The clear bottle is decorated with a lovely floral pattern in a traditional all over whimsical pattern. There are flowers in full bloom on tall stems with leaves on each side of the bottle. It has corner panels that have white scroll borders with rust and yellow accents separating each bloom.
The smaller side panels have long stems with multicolored leaves that start at the bottom and go all the way to the shoulder. Finally there is a rust colored band with yellow and white accents encircling the shoulder of the bottle. The bottle has wonderful small air bubbles throughout that add to its charm. Baron Stiegel was originally involved in iron forges and had high ambitions in both the metal furnaces and eventually glass as well.
He was unfortunately a poor business man and had big visions and over built the factories, his mansion, and most of his endeavors. He ended up in debtor's prison for a short while and after begging to be pardoned eventually ended up released and lived in poverty. The bottle is in excellent condition as there are no chips, cracks, nicks or dings. There is a rough pontil mark on the base of the flask.
There is even the metal fitting to the piece that is still intact. This would make a great addition to a bottle collection or would also display nicely among folk art. The bottle was blown circa 1760's. CLEMENTS ANTIQUES OF NEW HAMPSHIRE STOREFRONT. Please wait for my Invoice before paying.
